General Information
"The Labrador Retriever ~ The Dog
That Does It All" by Lisa Weiss & Emily Biegel
is a great book for families
that are interested in learning more about the breed and
is sprinkled with many color pictures of beautiful
Labradors. It was co-authored by one of the most
prominent Labrador breeder-judges in the United States,
Ms. Lisa E. Weiss (Nolechek), whose father Col. Jerry H.
Weiss USMC (Ret.) is also an active conformation dog
show judge and former Labrador breeder. The other
co-author, Mrs. Emily S. Biegel, has been involved as a
dog trainer for much of her life and has also been an
important Labrador breeder as well. Both ladies worked
for years at the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind,
Inc. in Smithtown, New York…Mrs. Biegel as Director of
Program Services for 16 years before she retired in 1997
and Ms. Weiss in various executive positions for over 20
years until her retirement in 2006.
Training
"Family Dog" by Richard A.
Wolters was first published in 1963 and is still one of
the very best dog training books available. Its
companion book by the same author, "Water Dog",
is also recommended for waterfowl hunters.
"How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live
With" by Clarice Rutherford & David H. Neil. This
contemporary book is not only informative but it is fun
to read as well.
